This unit features a built-in quad helix antenna for superior reception and can provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections.The GPS 76 provides 1 megabyte of internal user memory to be used for storing downloaded Points of Interest data. This 1 megabyte of storage area is preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater than 200,000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons, and is perfect for downloading points of interest detail from GARMIN's line of MapSource CD-ROMs. The GPS 76 is also preloaded with tide data for the United States.

Review: Back in my more naive days, I once went ahead with the purchase of a Garmin GPSMAP 76CS Receiver. Because I could be called a bit of a spelunker, and I frequently make global treks, I figured a global device like this was right up my alley.

Pros: Rugged, full of features, great value
Cons: 8 MB memory is sufficient but could be more
The Bottom Line: For now under $200 you will be hard-pressed to find a unit of this quality with so many features. Definitely recommended

Full featured GPSr, great screen

Pros: Easy to see screens, full complement of features, great reception.
Cons: Expensive add on maps needed to achieve full functionality, uncomfortable ergo form factor.
The Bottom Line: This is a great GPSr, especially if you have some experience with GPSing and are looking to upgrade. Might be overkill for a first unit??
