The Best Contact Lense Available
Date of Review: Dec 15, 2000
The Bottom Line: The lenses are worth the extra money you will be paying if you wear your lenses to bed.
The future of contact lenses is here today for a price. Bauch and Lomb introduces Pure Vision contact lenses. What makes them different than other soft contact lenses. In a word oxygen.
The human eye (and other eyes I presume) need oxygen in order to maintain their healthy state. Wearing contact lenses reduces the amount of oxygen the eye can obtain therefore creating a potentially dangerous situation. The other ingredient needed for healthy eyes is moisture. Pure Visions unique bend of silicone and hydrogel are combined to give the best breathability of any contact lense on the market as well as an excellent hydrating lense at the same time.
I have to say that I am very VERY fussy when it comes to my eyes. I almost feel sorry for the eye care practitioner who has to take care of me. Since I have just moved to Colorado a new young doctor was up for the challenge. The first thing he asked was
Do you sleep in your lenses?
As soon as I said yes, he recommended the Pure Vision. The first thing I noticed about the lense is how thick it was. Much thicker than any other lenses that I have ever used before. I could not make myself believe they would be comfortable. I tried them on and they felt GREAT. They were incredibly easy to put in and the comfort was extraordinary.
These lenses actually made my vision better than the lenses I was using previously. Previous to the Pure Vision I was seeing 20/15. I could see 20/13 with the Pure Vision. Not quite as good as with my glasses (20/10 !) but noticeably better than the contacts I was wearing previously.
Another unique fact I found about these lenses is when I woke in the morning. Usually when I woke in the morning it took me between 10-20 minutes for my eyes to adjust. What I thought was just morning eyes was actually my eyeball being swollen from the lack of oxygen. This did not happen at all with the Pure Vision. When I woke I was able to see right away and very clearly.
For the downside, these lenses are EXPENSIVE. Three pair of lenses set me back $37.99. I was quite appalled at the price, but the benefits outweighed the setback in price (my old lenses were $22 less expensive!).
I have heard there is a lawsuit pending with these lenses from another manufacturer. I don t know if that is why prices are so high or if it is the cost to make these great lenses or a combination of the two.
IF YOU SLEEP IN YOUR LENSES please take a favor from me and try the Pure Vision. You will find, as I did, they are the best lenses on the market today. Please notice in the parameters listed below the oxygen permeability is 99%. From what I was told by my doctor the next best lense is in the 40% range. HUGE difference.

UPDATE:
Pure Vision lenses are now back on the market after a legal battle between CIBA and Bauch & Lomb. There are a couple things I have noticed about the lenses.
1. They seem to be thicker than what they used to be and a little more rigid. My eyes took a little while getting used to them after not wearing them for over three or four years.
2. The price seems to be slightly higher than what they were when they first came out (and they were pricy then).
The thickness change COULD be due to the fact my eye prescription is quite a bit stronger now than what it was and the price could be due to inflation. If you take into account these lenses can be worn for 30 days as opposed to two weeks, that cuts the price in half and makes the lenses about the same amount of money in the long run.
I have been wearing a trial pair for almost 30 days now and am very happy these lenses are back on the market.
