Total peice of junk. Wireless is useless.
Date of Review: Dec 11, 2005
The Bottom Line: Junk, should not have hit market. A waste of my time and a pain in the behind for merchants in returns.
I was impressed with the small size of this router. I currently use an old linksys router and a seperate lnksys WIFI point so I was attracted to the fact that the WRT54GC would replace both these bulky old devices. Unfortunately the WRT54GC is a useless peice of junk.
The router was extremely difficult to setup. The interface is not very intuitive and settings that block wireless access are hidden. Once I got everything up and running the wireless speed was pathetic. The connection dropped constantly and from 10 feet away it had trouble. Webpages loaded very very slowly. The wireless portion of this router has some serious internal problems. It took 2 hours to setup and then performed poorly. My 3 year old router/access point performs way better at 11mbs then this 54mbs router.
After searching the web and finding many others have experiences the exact same problems I wont waste another second on this product. The WRT54GC is going back for a refund. A company knows when they put out crap like this and its not acceptable. Theres no excuse for this getting by quality control or the several other departments in the journey to mass market. Linksys obviously does not think much of their consumers.
A waste of time. Avoid.
