Good DS game
Date of Review: Feb 5, 2008
The Bottom Line: I enjoyed this game and would highly recommend it to anyone with a DS.
Well, since I have already put up a quick gaming story, I figured I might as well continue it with a semi-review of the game that I currently am in the midst of (hence the semi and not full fledge review). But don t you worry, race fans, this won t be solely a gaming blog or anything like that. It will continue to be a blog just about what I m up to and the wonderful mistakes that I tend to make!
Anyway, so on to my (semi) review. Overall, for a DS game, it is definitly not that bad. I wouldn t say that I have been missing any work to stay home, in bed, unshaved playing it, but it is definitly one that I like getting back to in order to play for about 15/20 min. every now and again.
So what is my reasoning behind that, you may ask. Well, let us start off with the good. Graphically, it is a fun game to play. More interesting than your standards out there. There is a nice style to it. Even with the shakey black and white people walking around.
Also good about it is the fact that the puzzles, so far, haven t been brain busters. I love puzzles. I love trying to figure them out. However, I suck horribly at them. I tend to over analyze them all to try to find some more spiratual meaning to them and fail miserably every single time. So this one is nice that I just have to look around and eventually I find something that helps me out. Granted, I m only an hour into the game, so that might change quickly. So if you see a DS flying at your head anytime soon, I d say that it s safe to say, I got frustrated. :)
So with that, let s get to the bad. When I was taking writing classes with a neighbor I used to have, he said I was always very good at one particular thing. Dialogue. Now, the drink may have caused that part of my brain to go down in flames years ago, but one thing I know is that the dialogue in this game can sometimes be the utmost in craptitude! For the most part, it is just average. But there are certain moments where I have just had to think to myself, Did they really just SAY that?!? You just have to pause and think of how many episodes of Hill Street Blues the writers sat through before they copied it word for word almost.
And with the dialogue, there is a LOT of talking. I m sitting there playing, thinking now would be a great time to get off this game and start experiencing the ultimate in HD experience (aka life, folks), but the people just won t shut up.
The story. So far, it has strangely captured my interest. But there really isn t anything new here at all. Cop has a bad day, gets fired, finds a new job in the lowly salesmen sector but never gives up his old life. Oh wow, what a brand-freakin-new concept we have here, folks!!
And finally, the main character is designed this way, but he s just an a-hole! You just want to reach through the touch screen and jab his eyes out with a spoon!
So overall, while there is a few more bad points than good, it is strangely addictive. I just keep coming back for more to figure out what will happen next. Or maybe I am just wondering when I ll hit an actual save spot!
The good: The graphics are good for the console it s on. And the gameplay is well done, I think, for use of the touch screen. The story is intriguing enough to want to find out what happens next. The puzzles have been easy so far; not enough to make me throw the game out the window!
The bad: The dialogue seems a bit off. Who the heck talked like that back then or even now?!? There seems to bey WAY too much talking and not enough looking around. Though that will probably/hopefully change as I continue playing
The ugly: Nothing really ugly with this one. Annoyances on the dialogue, but that s about it.
