Cisco all the way - Easy to use, Easy to Install
Date of Review: Nov 29, 2008
The Bottom Line: Buy it for simple networking.
The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G was purchased around six months ago by myself. Being a techie and not really caring about connection speed for my wireless enabled laptop, I purchased this product based upon brand name awareness. Cisco owns Linksys and Cisco is well known for their networking solutions. I had first thought that this would just be a simple brand name item that was worth only half of what I had bought it for, but I was truly wrong. This router included an easy set up with on screen diagrams showing the user how to correctly set up their new wireless network. The overall installation with the on screen guide could be ranked about a 2/10 based solely upon the necessity to know what ports to connect in. The remaining installation after the physical wiring was autocompleted by the cd rom installer. The encryption for the wireless network was offered but I know it is futile to have WEP-64, WEP-128, or WPA encryption on a wireess network because if somebody had wanted to break in they truly could within minutes (Don't worry, most people don't know how to crack WEP or WPA). The network has not given me any problems in the 6 months I have owned it. I highly suggest you buy this if you are looking for a simple wireless network set up or an efficient one.
