Gameboy Advance(d)
Date of Review: Feb 14, 2000
You have Gameboy - then Gameboy Color. You're happy. But wait, there's more! Less than two years after Nintendo releases the ever so popular Gameboy Color, they announce Gameboy Advance (though, this may not be the final name). Screen shots and actual pictures of the system have yet to be released, however, here are some facts we know already.
It will be 32-bits. Yes, 32. That's how many bits the Playstation has. So, does that mean you can expect astounding three dimensional games? Maybe, but don't expect it. What can you expect? Stunning 3D games. Think of SNES, but better. Maybe some less complicated 3D games, but once again, we don't know yet.
The unit will be only slightly larger than a Gameboy Color. The major difference is the way in which you hold it. It is no longer held with your hands on the long sides - now, your hands will go on the short sides. And yes, cartridges will still be used. The system will be backwards compatible with older Gameboy units.
If you are interested in Project Dolphin, you have probably already heard that these two pieces of hardware are being designed to work together. What does that mean for us? The possibilities are endless! Think.. Online capabilities. Imagine playing the next Pokemon(sorry!) game against your best friend. Pikachu, I choose you! Scary, isn't it?
