A must have for any die hard runner
Date of Review: Nov 8, 2007
The Bottom Line: A must have device for runners of all abilities. It gives you speed, distance, heart rate, time, and pace.
The Polar RS 200SD is a must have device for anyone invested in training for races. It gives accurate up to the second feedback on speed, pace, heart rate, distance, and time.
The watch is fully functional and easy to use. You initially set your personal parameters like age, sex, weight, height into the watch and then it uses those parameters to help calculate caloric expenditure during your workouts. The watch also remembers your workouts and gives you averages and totals for daily or weekly training intervals. Other useful features of the rs200SD is that it can connect to your computer with the use of the Polar desktop program to continue to follow your training progress. It also keeps track of your next race with a countdown calendar.
In workout mode, the watch enables you to set target workout zones by heart rate so you have an visual idea of effort. The heartrate monitor is attached to an elastic strap which goes around your chest and the foot pod ties to your shoe lace. The pod is very light and uses a AAA battery. The foot pod, chest strap and the watch are all waterproof which means this is a great device for use even in bad weather or triathalon training.
The only thing that the RS200SD is missing is it's ability to sense altitude or inclination when running.
Overall, this is a great device for runners of all abilities who like to see what they are doing besides just subjectively feeling what kind of effort they are putting out.
